Meet the Doctor
Dr. Hoffberger is a Florida native, born and raised in North Miami Beach. He graduated from Tulane University College of Biomedical Engineering in 1992. Dr. Hoffberger completed medical school at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996 and went on to train in General Surgery at Michigan State University – Botsford General Hospital. In 2003, Dr. Hoffberger completed his training in Cardiothoracic Surgery (heart surgery and lung surgery) at the prestigious Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Hoffberger practiced Cardiothoracic Surgery in Southeastern Michigan for 7 years and in 2010 eventually returned home to South Florida to establish, grow, and develop a new cardiac surgical program in Northern Broward County.
In 2015 Dr. Hoffberger moved to Sarasota after being recruited by First Physicians Group to join one of Florida’s leading Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgical Programs at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He has performed more than 6,000 cardiac and thoracic procedures including coronary revascularization, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), mitral valve repair, complex multi-valve operations, high-risk operations, thoracic vascular reconstructions, and cancer surgery.
He specializes in valve surgery, particularly mitral valve repair and minimally invasive valve surgery. He is board certified in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Hoffberger continues to serve his profession as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center, NY and Florida State University College of Medicine, Sarasota Campus. Additionally, Dr. Hoffberger has previously been elected by his peers to be Chairman of the Division of Cardiothoracic/Vascular Surgery of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He also served as Chief of Surgery and Sarasota Memorial Hospital 2019-2020 and is currently Chief of Staff Elect at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, representing over 1400 medical staff colleagues.
