1. Set Your Computer to Read Aloud
Most modern operating systems can read text out loud using built-in screen readers.
- Windows: Press Windows Key + Ctrl + Enter to start Narrator.
- Mac: Click the Apple Menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content. You can enable “Speak selection” to have the Mac read text when you press a specific key.
- Mobile: Both iOS (VoiceOver) and Android (TalkBack) have robust screen reading features found in the Accessibility settings menu.
2. Zoom Your Screen View
If increasing font size isn’t enough, you can magnify the entire screen.
- Windows: Press the Windows Key and the + (Plus) key at the same time to open the Magnifier.
- Mac: Click the Apple Menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Zoom. Here you can enable keyboard shortcuts or “Scroll gesture with modifier keys” to zoom in.
3. Make Text Larger (Quick Zoom)
You can quickly change the size of the text on any specific webpage.
- To Increase: Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and press +.
- To Decrease: Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and press –.
- To Reset: Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and press 0.
4. Make Your Cursor Larger
- Windows: Press the Start button and type “Mouse pointer size.” Select the system setting to adjust the pointer thickness and color.
- Mac: Click the Apple Menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Display. Use the Pointer size slider to adjust.
5. Browser-Specific Customization
If you want every website you visit to look a certain way, adjust your browser settings:
- Google Chrome: Click the three dots (⋮) > Settings > Appearance. You can adjust “Font size” and “Page zoom” here.
- Microsoft Edge: Click the three dots (…) > Settings > Appearance. Scroll down to Fonts or Page Zoom.
- Safari: Click Safari in the top menu > Settings (or Preferences) > Advanced. Check “Never use font sizes smaller than” and select your size.
- Firefox: Click the three lines (≡) > Settings. Under the General panel, look for Language and Appearance to adjust fonts and colors.
